In an effort to build momentum for immigration reform, Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) introduced the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009 (CIR ASAP) December 15, 2009.[1]The introduction of CIR ASAP represents the first major immigration legislation to be proposed in Congress since 2007.[2] Among other things, the bill would provide a legalization process for millions of illegal immigrants, prohibit local law enforcement from enforcing federal immigration laws, improve detention center conditions, and institute certain border security reform.[3] Read the rest of this entry  »

First, it is important not to resist an officer. Resisting arrest by fleeing or struggling may result in criminal charges. Also, you risk injury due to the police chasing and forcibly arresting you.

In general, if you are stopped or arrested, be respectful. Police have a difficult job and are generally deserving of our respect, but what is more important, if you are respectful, the officer may be more likely to leave you alone.
