The IRS recently did a study examining the effect of the lack of regulation of the tax return preparer industry.The purpose was to evaluate the need to protect consumers from negligent or fraudulent tax preparer services.The result was that the Service has recently proposed new regulatory standards for the tax preparer industry. Immigration activists hope 2010 will be a different story. In an effort to build momentum for immigration reform, Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) introduced the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity Act of 2009 (CIR ASAP) December 15, 2009.[1]The introduction of CIR ASAP represents the first major immigration legislation to be proposed in Congress since 2007.[2] Among other things, the bill would provide a legalization process for millions of illegal immigrants, prohibit local law enforcement from enforcing federal immigration laws, improve detention center conditions, and institute certain border security reform.[3] Read the rest of this entry »
